Our Open Day

We had an Open Day. We invited our Mums and Dads and Grandparents and the community to our school to see our digital learning. We loved teaching all our visitors how to use the i-Pads and take photos and movies. We emailed the pictures that we took to our visitors too. The i-Pads are so easy to use. We also showed our guests our learning on the ActivBoard and the desk top computers. We are very confident now and we love to share our learning with you.
We made a video about our Open Day. If you missed coming, we will have another one next year, to teach everyone about blogging and how to leave messages.

Harvesting Our Carrots.

We are Enviro Kids!
We grew and harvested lots and lots of healthy organic carrots.
They were all kinds of shapes and sizes.
We had so much fun pulling them up.
We made a movie about our carrots. We hope you like watching it.

Chocolate Chip Cookies - yum, yum!

We have been learning about fat, sugar and salt and how to make and cook recipes that are healthier to eat.

We made some healthy Chocolate Chippie biscuits.

Here is the "Recipe Makeover" if you want to try making them at home!

Chocolate Chip Cookies – Original Recipe
125g butter
1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup plain white flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips

Chocolate Chip Cookies – Healthier Version
Ingredients: What has been changed
100g margarine - Used margarine as it has less saturated fat so is better for
your heart.
1/2 cup brown sugar - Cut down on the sugar and added dried fruit for natural
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/3 cup chocolate chips - Decreased the amount of chocolate chips as they are high in fat and sugar.
1/2 cup dried apricots - Added dried fruit as they contain natural sugar + vitamins.
1/2 cup wholemeal flour - Added wholemeal flour for extra fibre.
1/2 cup white flour - Decreased amount of plain flour as it is low in fibre.
1/2 cup rolled oats - Added rolled oats as they are a great source of fibre.
1 teaspoon baking powder
Set the oven to 180ÂșC.
Cream the margarine and sugar together in a bowl until thick and creamy.
Add vanilla and mix through.
Add chocolate chips and dried apricots, mix well.
Add sifted flours (return husks from wholemeal flour to the bowl), oats and baking powder and mix until well combined.
Lightly grease a large oven tray.
Roll the mixture into balls - it's quite a crumbly mixture but it will come together.
Arrange on a tray, allowing space for mixture to spread.
Press down with a fork, holding onto the sides of the ball to prevent it crumbling.
Cook for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned on top but still soft in the middle.
Allow to cool for a few minutes on the tray before removing to a wire rack.
Cost: $3 to make 16 biscuits.

Working with Clay.

We are awesome little artists! We are learning how to work with clay.

One of our favourite New Zeland authors is Joy Cowley and we love her stories about Greedy Cat.
We had a go had making Greedy Cat faces out of clay. It is a lot harder than you think!

Look at us! We got clay all over our hands!

We loved experimenting with the clay.

Look at our creations drying in the sun.
The clay faces really do look like little Greedy Cats.
